Chasing the Impossible: A Girl Can Dream by A. Goswami Review

October 25, 2025 by Jasmine Simone

A. Goswami’s A Girl Can Dream: A Spicy Sapphic Fiancé’s Sister Forbidden Romance is an absolute triumph that manages to make the deeply complicated feel ultimately inevitable. As a writer who thrives on raw character vulnerability, I was immediately hooked by the high emotional stakes of this story. This book is a delicious exploration of self-discovery, breaking free from expectation, and the intoxicating pull of a connection you’re technically forbidden to chase. It’s a journey well worth the few speed bumps on the road to bliss.

The story drops us into the life of Cassie, a classic good girl—polite, responsible, and utterly lost after a “too vanilla” breakup leaves her single, heartbroken, and crashing at her brother’s New York loft. Her only solace is her art, which is safe, until Laura Black blasts into her world. Laura is everything Cassie is not: a dangerously sexy tattoo artist, a biker, loud, and fearless. The instant attraction is a seismic shift, forcing Cassie to question the rules she’s always played by and what it would truly mean to live boldly. The catch, the agonizing catch, is that Laura is engaged to Cassie’s brother, Jacob.

I’ll admit to one small frustration: the circular path the characters took to finally getting together. The constant push-pull created an intense, almost unbearable yearning, and I wished they had shed their reservations sooner. However, as in any truly fulfilling story, the payoff was immense. The explosion of emotion and passion when the characters finally cross that taboo line felt earned, devastating, and ultimately restorative.

What elevates this book is its focus on internal transformation. Cassie is heartbroken, not just from a breakup, but from losing herself trying to survive in a family and town obsessed with rules. It’s a powerful moment when she realizes she wants the freedom Laura embodies. This is beautifully mirrored by the detail that Cassie unknowingly wrote Laura into her book—a testament to the deep, almost spiritual connection they share, where one character’s soul is literally informing the other’s creative expression. The realization that Cassie’s genuine self and desires were waiting to be unlocked by someone who loved her just the way she was adds incredible weight to their romance.

The tension is expertly woven through this dynamic: the quiet soul desperate to be loud meets the bold spirit stifled by expectations. Their instant chemistry makes anything that happens between them feel taboo, creating a captivating “forbidden romance” that won’t be denied. This story is all about tearing down the polite, responsible façade to chase something impossible.

Despite the slight drag in the build-up, I have virtually no complaints about the novel’s overall emotional impact. The journey to that hard-won ending is so compelling, so sexy, that I finished it desperate for more. This is definitely a book I’ll be rereading as soon as possible. For a spicy, high-stakes romance that delivers phenomenal payoff, A Girl Can Dream is a must-read. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
