Top Ten Fictional Lesbian Heroes

Kissed by Venus has a great new post by Catherine Lundoff about her top ten lesbian protagonists.

I know I liked Molly from Rita Mae Brown’s Rubyfruit Jungle and Dylan from Beth Goobie’s Hello, Groin, off the top of my head. I think I liked Mike from Julie Anne Peter’s Far From Xanadu, too. I guess I can’t count Ivan E. Coyote’s books’ protagonists, because they’re pretty much just Ivan, who isn’t fictional.

Who are your favorite lesbian main characters?

Okay, I’ll admit to a long standing literary crush on Nan from Tipping the Velvet. I also really like Michelle from Michelle Tea’s Valencia and Francesca from the IHOP Diaries and, of course, Beebo Brinker.

    Hi … 🙂

I love Aud Torvingen in Nicola Griffith’s novels (The Blue Place , Stay , Always )

I’ve heard really good things about Nicola Griffith. I just picked up one of hers, Slow River. I’m really looking forward to it! Unfortunately, my library only has The Blue Place in e-book form, and I seem to be distracted too easily by the internet to read a whole novel online. I’ll have to ILL some time.

Slow River is a strange and beautifully written novel , beautifully crafted . I would recommend also Ammonite .

Aud Torvingen only appears in the novels I mentionned above . One could say they are some kind of detective novels , I think it’s more about the exploration of that one character , Aud , how she deals with strengh , violence and love.

What I also like very much about Nicola is that she really interacts with her readers , here , http://asknicola.blogspot.com/ and there in the archives of er site , http://www.nicolagriffith.com/asknicola.html .
